Shannon, I am 16 about to be 17 and I feel that I am gay. I feel that I am very lonely. What should I do?

Feeling lonely is something that happens to many, many people at your age, especially when they begin to question their sexuality.

Not having or knowing somebody to talk to about these things can make you feel isolated.

The important thing to remember in situations like this is that there are people and organizations out there to help you.

My advice is to look around your local areas and see if you can find any social networks or community groups that might cater for young people.

Here in Melbourne there is a group called Minus18. It's a group for young gay people and is a great way to meet people of a similar age and with similar interests. It's also invaluable as a support network for young GLTBI people in this city. Perhaps there is a similar organization near to you.

If you are feeling isolated or lonely then it is important to reach out to people around you. As a teenager it's always hard to deal with issues of acceptance.

The thing you need to know right now is that there is a whole community out here waiting for you. Regardless of your sexuality if you embrace the people around you then you will never be lonely.

Your question here is the first step and it's great that you have written. Your going to be amazing and your life is going to be amazing.

It gets better :)
