Recently I was sent an email questioning my Aussie Pride because I wear non Australian brand swimwear and underwear.
"You keep repeating the words that you are a proud Aussie. Why do you wear USA brands of underwear? What is wrong with the Aussie Brands?
You, like most "wouldn't-have-a-clue" Bloggers from the US, call all male brief swimwear, SPEEDOS. And you are an Aussie?
Proud Aussies would defend using the name SPEEDO for only real branded SPEEDOS, an Aussie invention!
Nikes are Nikes, Addidas are Addidas, etc etc. Only a Speedo is a Speedo. Speedo is NOT a generic name.
Speedo was an Aussie company from 1928. "

Actually I do almost always wear a "Speedo" and sometimes an Aussiebum. I also wear Tribe and Xwear, all of which are Australian brands and everyone knows I love my Bonds.
But really there is a lot more to being a proud Aussie than the brand of swimwear and underwear you wear. I am more than the sum of my swimwear. The clothes do NOT make the man. So what makes me a proud Aussie?
What makes me a proud Aussie is my love of Australia, it's people, it's beaches, the bush, the lifestyle, its diversity and its heritage.
Like all nations we have our share of social injustice, intolerance and prejudice but on the whole I am proud of what we stand for as a nation.
The simple fact of the matter is that we live in a Global village. My laptop was made in Japan, my t-shirt was made in china, the couch I am sitting on was made in Sweden, and the TV i am watching was made in Taiwan. Pride is not only about the things we own, it is about what we support and what we stand up for.
