Queensland floods.

Like many Australians I have been glued to the TV over the last 48 hours.

Over the past 2 weeks Queensland has been hit by floods culminating in the tragic flash floods in Toowoomba. Currently 67 people are missing and 10 people have died 4 of which are believed to be children.

It's heart breaking to watch, with some 20,000 homes expected to be effected by the flooding.

My hopes and well wishes go out to all the people who have been effected by this tragedy.

Just to put the scale of the flooding into perspective. The size of the area effected would stretch from England to Italy.

IMPORTANT

If you find yourself without mobile phone coverage remove you sim card and turn the phone back on. The phone should roam automatically to the nearest network and will allow you to make emergency calls to 112. This also works outside of Australia but the number will be different. Only use this in an emergency as removing your sim card will prevent emergency services using the sim card to locate you.

Twitter and other social network sites are proving to be an invaluable source of information. If you are in a flood effected area and without access to a landline these sites may be of assistance to you.

Also Apple has a iPhone App available called

Queensland floods

This app can provide access to ABC podcasts, information on road closures, power outages etc.

There are also links to useful services.

It is unofficial and has some bugs but my prove useful in a crunch.
